A Voyage Round My Father is an
autobiographical account of John Mortimer's father, a lawyer who
resolutely denied his own blindness.
It is a powerful and moving study of a man who is clearly monstrous in some aspects but who is, nonetheless, drawn with enormous affection. the play is almost an elegy for him, and for Mortimer's stalwart mother who forbore his father's eccentricities with enormous patience. First produced as a radio play, it was then staged in a final version at the Haymarket Theatre, and later televised with Laurence Olivier as the father.
